The Fall of Jack- Directors notes

For this film, I took on multiple roles in our group’s documentary. I directed, wrote, edited, acted, and recorded the voiceover, which let me shape the project from the initial idea through to the final cut. Since this story mixes history, community, and creativity, I focused on creating a tone that felt grounded and personal rather than overly formal.

Acting and voicing parts of the documentary added another layer, since I had to match the mood we wanted the audience to feel. I also worked with my team to plan shots and build visuals that supported the narrative without distracting from it.

Another component was the final claymation and animation sequence, for which I was the primary artist and photographer. I learned that I really enjoy working with clay and practical effects.

Editing was where the documentary finally came together. I shaped the rhythm, layered sound, and made sure the story flowed in a way that felt natural and respectful to the real events we were covering.

Taking on so many roles helped me grow as a filmmaker and strengthened my confidence in directing, writing, and crafting a strong narrative voice.
